Ann DeMarle is the founding director of Champlain College’s Emergent Media Center (EMC), MakerLab, nationally ranked undergraduate game degrees, and MFA/MS in Emergent Media. She launched the EMC with a mission to bring Champlain students’ media and technology expertise to businesses and non-profits looking to explore and create new digital solutions. Key projects include the UN sponsored, award winning BREAKAWAY game, curriculum, and youth camp initiative addressing violence against women that ran programs in the West Bank and El Salvador, a Ford Foundation project where users learn to make business decisions to solve rural economic inequities, and “Make A Change” an interactive narrative series of games for college students focusing on changing the culture of sexual harassment and assault. She has received two IBM Faculty Awards, is an Apple Distinguished Educator, former IEEE Computer Society Governor, and trustee for both Images and Voices of Hope and the Stern Center for Language and Learning.
